Odylique is an award-winning brand with a speciality in sensitive skincare. Odylique makes skincare, cosmetics, baby products and hair care all with therapeutic ingredients in eco-conscious packaging.
Who Why? Originally called Essential Care, and then changed to Odylique (which means Power of Nature). Founded in 2003 by Margaret, who struggled to find quality skincare for her families sensitive, eczema prone skin.
Margaret who has a qualification in herbal medicine & aromatherapy, still formulates all the products today, with help from her team. All the products are handmade in Suffolk which is unusual for a business of this size.
Abi, Margaret’s daughter runs the business with Margaret and if you want to know their product recommendations and a typical day for them both then click here for a spotlight interview
What: Odylique’s aim is that all products have therapeutic value and the products must be a joy to use. They use therapeutic concentrations of herbs and essential oils.
Plant oils used are virgin & cold-pressed and all products are free from synthetic chemicals, artificial fragrance and allergens, such as wheat, soya, peanuts, dairy etc..
Products are tested on human volunteers, not animals. Not all products are vegan, some products use beeswax or honey, though Odylique ensures that best farming practices are used.
Ingredients Policy: Odylique uses certified organic ingredients where they exist, fairtrade sugar and shea butter and certified cruelty-free ingredients. All ingredients must have therapeutic value and not thought to be an allergenic, See here for what Odylique does not use*
Packaging – 98% of Odylique packaging is made in Europe. Almost half the bottles and jars and all of the product boxes are made in the UK. All the 200ml bottles, 50g and 175g jars are made from 100% recycled materials (old milk bottles in fact!). Much more is planned to follow soon.
Odylique chose to use recycled plastic bottles, instead of glass as the manufacturer energy expenditure is similar, plastic is safer for children and most glass is made outside the UK, where Odylique recycled plastic is made in the UK from recycled British plastic milk cartons.
All packaging, including bottle pumps, is recyclable.
Awards and accreditations: Numerous awards from Beauty Shortlist, Natural Health, Free From, Green Parent etc. See here for Odylique dedicated award page
Accreditations include COSMOS Natural and Organic certifications for products, PETA Cruelty-free, Certified Vegan (where appropriate), a Ethical Consumer Best Buy and Ethical Accreditation from The Good Shopping Guide.
What I like: The Odylique website, full of information, this company feels truly transparent. I like ingredient choices, that every ingredient has a job, is fairtrade, organic and cruelty-free. I like the COSMOS certification which means a yearly audit and transparent supply chain. I like the Ethical Consumer and Good Shopping Guide Ethical Accreditation which means the whole company (even finances) has been looked at and deemed to be an Ethical choice.
What I did not like: I am not a huge fan of the design of the packaging, it feels quite old fashioned to me.
My hero products: Both shampoos- have used them for years, one of the only shampoos that do not irritate my scalp. The sun cream, it is marine safe, baby safe, I have used it and it has worked as almost total sunblock in the hottest of countries.
